ALBERTA’s NEW FUNDING GUIDELINES IMPLEMENTED
December 16, 2011 – Today, Alberta’s Minister of Culture and Community Services implemented changes to the Alberta Multimedia Development Fund for screen-based production funding. The most significant change is moving from the previous three‑stream funding system within the Alberta Production Program to a new two-stream funding system with an increased grant percentage. The new streams are broken down as follows:
- Stream I –Indigenous/Co-Production Stream:
- must have between 30 and 100 per cent Albertan ownership of production with proportionate financial and creative control.
- must have a minimum of six Albertans employed in key creative positions (or 50 per cent of the key creative positions in the budget). Two Alberta-trainee key creative positions may be substituted for one key creative position. See eligible Key Creative Position definition in the guidelines.
- eligible for up to 29 per cent of qualifying Alberta costs, subject to a per Production maximum grant of $ 5 M.
- for shoots that last more than 30 consecutive days, or 300 person hours for digital projects, one per cent of additional funding will be granted to a maximum of 30 per cent of qualifying Alberta costs.
- Stream II – Foreign/Service Stream:
- Albertan ownership in the production is 30 % or less, with no ownership being acceptable. o Alberta production corporation can be owned by a non resident of Canada.
- must have a minimum of four Albertans employed in key creative positions (or one-third of key creative positions in the budget). Two Alberta-trainee key creative positions may be substituted for one key creative position. See eligible Key Creative Position definition in the guidelines.
- eligible for up to 25 per cent of qualifying Alberta costs, subject to a per Production maximum grant of $ 5 M. o
- for shoots that last more than 30 consecutive days, or 300 person hours for digital projects, one per cent of additional funding will be granted to a maximum of 26 per cent of qualifying Alberta costs.
NEW BRUNSWICK ANNOUNCES FILM AND TELEVISION GRANT
November 22, 2011 - Today, the New Brunswick government announced a new Film and TV grant program to replace the previous Film and TV tax credit program.
The program went into effect immediately and will be managed by NB Film, through the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport. The guidelines are expected to be posted to NB Film's website, nbfilm.ca soon.
The new grant is 25 % of qualifying New Brunswick labour and non-labour expenditures.

Government of Alberta announces changes to the Alberta Multimedia Development Fund
August 1, 2011 - the Alberta Multimedia Development Fund is offering funding of up to 30% of all eligible Alberta expenses. Funding is broken down into two streams: Stream One – Indigenous/Coproduction – An Alberta company must own between 30-100% of the production; Eligible for up to 30% funding. Stream Two – Foreign/Service – No Alberta ownership is required; Eligible for up to 26% funding.
New Brunswick - Deputy Minister Carolyn MacKay confirms phase-out of the New Brunswick Tax Credit and Elimination of Development Loan and Equity Investment Programs for the Film Industry
April 14, 2011 - All tax credit related approved projects and contracts with producers will be honored. The phase-out of the tax credit will be implemented as follows:
- Pre-production applications for the film tax credit that have received the Department's approval prior to March 22, 2011 will continue to be eligible for the film tax credit upon completion of the production.
- Productions that have received a development loan or equity investment from Wellness, Culture and Sport prior to March 22, 2011 will continue to be eligible for the film tax credit upon completion of production.
- Pre-production applications for the film tax credit that have been received on or before April 5, 2011 will be reviewed by the Department and may receive pre-approval to be eligible for the film tax credit.
